Masonic Hall In Cookstown
-
Photo showing the exterior of the Masonic Hall located at 4 Queen Street in Cookstown. The building was originally a cheese factory located on Victoria Street that was moved to Queen Street when purchased by the Masonic Order. After renovations, the upstairs rooms were used by the Masons while the downstairs rooms were rented out to other businesses. A local photographer, T.A. Adams, operated out of this building for some time. The photo shows a small two storey building with the Masonic compass and square above the front door, flanked by a window on either side. The front door is part of an entry room that was formerly a verandah before it was closed in at some point in the late 1920s.

Both her maiden and married surnames were Black as her husband was a relation from a different branch of the Black pioneering family of Innisfil. Mayme was the daughter of James Black and Mary Lennox, granddaughter of Robert Black and Margaret Booth, and great-granddaughter of James Black and Mary Latimer, who emigrated to Innisfil from Dungannon Ireland in 1847. In this photo she is seated at a table and wearing a corsage while the woman in the centre wearing a floral dress is holding what appears to be a birthday cake with lit candles.
